Bio

Bart Picqueur is a versatile musician from Belgium. Educated as a classsical clarinet player he nowadays divides his professional time between conducting and composing, mainly for the concert band but occasionnaly also for choir, orchestra.

Bart Picqueur (1972) studied at the Conservatory in Ghent, where he obtained the diploma of “Master in music, specialisation wind-band conducting” with distinction in 1996 in the class of Dirk Brossé, and in 1997 the diploma of “Master in music, specialisation clarinet” in the class of Freddy Arteel, and also a teaching certificate. He received his orchestra conducting training from Fabrice Bollon.

As a composer, he has met with success with the musicals “Devil’s Paradise” (1977) and Jan Praet (2000). It is the first original music for brass band orchestras. He also wrote the music for the documentary “Zolang er scheepbouwers zingen” (1998). The composition “A Frog hitters’ Fantasy” won the public award at the international composition competition of the European Music Festival for Youth in Neerpelt (B).

Bart Picqueur is particularly active as an arranger for both classical and light music. He has worked in this capacity for, among others, Dirk Brossé, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Publiekstheater, the Remuze Festival, Hasselt Proms, and many wind orchestras in Belgium and the Netherlands. Many vocalists have been accompanied by his arrangements: Rob De Nijs, Raymond Van Het Groenewoud, Paul Michiels, Marco Bakker, Ernst Daniel Smit, Berget Lewis, Antonio Di Palma, Hans Peter Janssen and An Lauwerijns, to name but a few.
