Matt Bandman, Born February 25th, 1998, graduated from Radford University in 2021 where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music. What started as a hobby which later turned into a passion, Matt started his compositional journey in high school where he attended Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke Virginia, United States graduating in 2016. He has since received commission offers from: Tuscarora High School in Leesburg Virginia, United States and from the Northern Virginia Community College Alexandra Band and also has had recent music publications. In addition, Matt is a member of the NOVA Alexandria Band where he is the principal alto saxophonist and now the resident composer. Between 2018-2023, the NOVA band premiered 6 of his works to date: “Roses of Galante,” “The Tattered Flag,” “Red Rocks Saga,” “Soaring with the Eagles,” “For Ol’ Glory,” and “Overture to a New Horizon” with more to Matt’s musical inspiration comes from his love of movie scores from the great movie composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and John Powell to name a few. Along with the movie greats, Matt also has influence in his music from today’s great concert band composers: Robert Sheldon, the late Robert W. Smith, Randall Standrige, Brian Balmages, and Rossano Galante who has since become a supporter and meteor of Matt.
