Born in Verviers, Thomas Groenweghe quickly became part of the musical life of his region, playing clarinet in Music Schools and Conservatories, as well as in wind bands. He wrote his first piece for youth orchestra at the age of 12. He graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Liège in 2012, where over the years he earned 3 Masters degrees: in Music Training, Organ and Classical Writing. He also spent 2 years in Montreal (Canada), where he obtained a Degree in Film music composition. This trip enabled him to make his first arrangements for the Video Game Orchestra of Montréal (OJV) in works such as Pokémon, Mario, Sonic, ...
Awarded Best Belgian in the large orchestra composer category at the "Maurice Ravel" International Composition Competition in 2015, he will also be nominated for the UCMF prize in 2020 with his music for the short film "Sonnez avant minuit". Today, Thomas Groenweghe is Professor of Classical Writing at the Royal Conservatories of Liège and Brussels, where he enthusiastically shares his passion for classical writing and composing forfilm.
