Desert overture fanfare was inspired by the spirit of the Desert Overture Wind Symphony. This outstanding ensemble is conducted by Scott Helms and was commissioned for them by Robert D. Lynn. The piece opens with heroic brass fanfares interspersed with lyrical flowing lines in the wind section. After the opening material, we hear the main theme stated by horns and winds. This melody, evoking pride and nobility, is the basis for the entire composition. The middle section is enhanced by sweeping, robust melodies and evocative rhythms. After a brief transition, the main theme is recapitulated by the full brass section accompanied by a rhythmic ostinato in the winds. Blazing forth with full brass fanfares reminiscent of the opening material, the work comes to a brilliant close.
