Roumaniana is a suite for wind orchestra (symphonic wind orchestra) by the Belgian composer Jean Absil. In the suite Roumaniana you can hear successively :
Dance of Craïova and Caracal
Melancholy lullaby
Dance from Transylvania
Songs of Brasov
Folk party
In this work the composer has used the folklore of the Romanian communities Craiova, Caracal, Suceava, Pascani, Resini and Banaat.
The final piece of the suite is a folk festival that starts with a dance, called Sirba, and continues with a very fast dance that requires great virtuosity, characteristic of the Romanian gypsy orchestras.
